Novell Certifications
Novell certifications established the standard in IT and computer certification. Novell was one of the first to offer certifications and remains among the most prestigious and respected certification programs in the industry. Combine a Novell and a Microsoft certification together and you are armed with a powerful set of credentials to aid you in your career. Many companies combine Microsoft servers and workstations based on a Novell intranet. As a result, many Novell certifications can be applied towards credit in Microsoft certification programs.
There are six basic certifications offered by Novell. Each Novell certification has unique advantages and a specific skillset.
Certified Novell Administrator (CNA)
The first certification you should obtain is the CNA. The CNA certification is a pre-requisite for both the CDE and CNE certifications. It will provide you with the necessary skills for supporting Novell NetWare and eDirectory environments. Certified Novell Administrators provide support for a company’s software users in a number of work environments including small businesses, work groups, corporate information services, and professional offices.
Persons hoping to obtain CNA certifications must have a working knowledge of networking before focusing on Novell specific networking. It is Novell’s recommendation that candidates obtain a CompTIA Network certification before beginning work on their Novell CNA. Getting your CompTIA first will greatly improve your understanding in networking concepts and be a valuable preparation for the Novel CNA courses. This will ensure that you have obtained a solid understainding of network protocols, standards, topologies, media, support, and implementation.
Certified Novell Engineer (CNE)
The Information Technology industry’s premier certification for networking and troubleshooting is the CNE, or Certified Novell Engineer. CNE training will teach you a broad variety of network skills that enable you to maintain and support your company’s network at top efficiency. The CNE holder will resolve intensive high-level network failures or problems and system-wide support problems. As a Certified Novell Engineer, you will also take care of planning, configuration, installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting for Novell networks.
Master CNE
The top performing CNE designation is Master CNE. A Master CNE receives specialized training and performs implementation and troubleshooting on very specific types of Novell systems.
Certified Novell Instructor (CNI)
A CNI receives special training enabling him or her to become a valuable and sought after education professional.
Novell Certified Linux Engineer
This is Novell’s latest addition to your choice of certification offerings. This new certification qualifies you to administer and install Linux based Novell Enterprise services in both mixed and exclusively Linux based environments.
Certified Novell Salesperson (CNS)
The CNS certification prepares salespersons to competently explain, demonstrate, and sell Novell solutions.
