System Requirements FAQ

Q. What are PC system requirements for watching CompuCert training videos online?

A.
  • PC or Tablet with video adapter supporting 1024 x 768 resolution or higher
  • Speakers or headphones
  • Latest version of Adobe Flash Plug-In for internet browser
  • Internet Connection of 1.5 Mbs or better
  • Supported Internet Browsers include: Internet Explorer version 7 and above (recommended), Mozilla Firefox version 6 and above, Google Chrome version 13 and above (DVD content not fully supported)
  • Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP2, or Windows 7 SP2 operating system

If you are experiencing a delay in the video playback, we have prepared a document with instructions on how toTroubleshoot Speed Issues.Click here to download information on how to run a speed test and the proceedure for following up.

Q. What IE (Internet Explorer) security settings are required for successful completion of on-line video training?

A. Internet security settings for IE are set to "medium-high" by default. Some settings have to be adjusted to allow active content to be displayed on a student PC and provide feedback to the Career Academy content server.

Make sure your Internet security settings are set as following:

- "Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls" Enabled;
- "Download signed ActiveX controls" Enabled or Prompt;
- "Run ActiveX controls" Enabled;
- "Automatic prompting for file downloads" Enabled;
- "File download" Enabled;
- "Submit non-encrypted form of data" Enabled.
- "Active scripting" Enabled
- "Scripting Java applets" Enabled (necessary for Global Mentoring assistance), requires JRE for Windows installed;
- "Use pop-up blocker" Disabled

Additionally, (see page 4) clear "Turn on Pop-up Blocker" on the Privacy tab of Internet Options. On the "Advanced" tab of Internet Options find "Security" (page 5) section and check the box next to "Allow active content to run in files on my PC". Apply and OK to exit.

Q. IE can play training videos using Flash, but recently installed Firefox can't
A. Firefox needs Shockwave Flash and Shockwave for Director plug-ins. Install both from Adobe web site using Firefox. Verify in Tools > Options > Main >Manage Add-ons … > Plug-ins. You should see Shockwave Flash and Shockwave for Director installed. You can either clear ‘block pop-up windows” on the Content tab or create an exception for the video trainer site.

Q. I use Google (Yahoo, AVG8 security, Symantec, etc.) toolbar in my IE browser. Is this a problem for on-line training?
A. 3rd party toolbars are known to interfere with feedback and have to be removed.
Example: Student score is not recorded in the presence of Google, Yahoo or other toolbars and status of the module is not updated since these toolbars has a pop-up blocker.

Q. I was able to launch a course yesterday. Nothing changed in my environment and IE settings. The only screen I see after clicking "Launch course" is a blue screen and a request to update Flash player.

A. It appears that a delay in opening course outline page introduced by Internet connection causes IE to display "Reinstall your Flash player" error page. It "flashes" for a second and not really visible if connection is fast. The "error" page stays and clearly visible if delay exceeds several seconds. It is replaced by Outline page if connection is restored.

Q. I have problem recording my progress in a course and quiz score. It stays "incomplete" no matter how many times I review the videos. What can I do to pass a course?
A. A course status change is triggered only by completing a quiz. Watching all or any videos, demos and taking labs does not change a status of a course. Starting a quiz and quitting it in the middle changes status to “incomplete” regardless of a previous status.
Review quiz score is recorded after a test is completed and "Quit" button is used to close that pop-up. Passing score is 80.

Q. I watched all videos in the course and passed a quiz. My score was greater than 80 yet it wasn't recorded. Why?
A. Compucert on-line video trainer has a default student session timeout set to 480 minutes. That does not prevent a student from watching videos within a module since videos are loaded automatically. Taking a quiz or switching between modules when session time has exceeded 480 minutes requires logoff and logon.

The student score is not recorded and status of the module is not updated at this point.

Though it seems like plenty of time, it is recommended to take breaks and logoff/logon to make sure your progress is sent to the server. It is highly recommended to logoff/logon before taking a quiz to extend the session time to maximum. These actions are necessary to record both progress and status of a course and quiz score.

Q. I answered all, e.g.10 questions of a quiz and clicked “Quit” button as instructed. My score wasn't recorded. Why?

The page that displays the last question (often 10/10) is not the point when the application generates a score. Students should click the “Next question” button after answering the last question and see “Assessment results” pop-up. The score will be generated at this point and sent to student's record.

Q. What happens if I use Windows "X" to close my browser while session is still active?
A. A student should close course-module using "Quit" button on the right hand side of control interface. I returns control to browser session.
A student should close a session using "Logout" option in the upper right corner on the title bar.
Closing video pop-up window and browser using Windows "X" could lead to loss of student progress and session lockout.

Q. I accidentally closed my browser using Windows "X" and want to logon again. Video trainer sends me a message that "Another user with the same login is already logged on". I can't logon. How do I fix the problem?
A. Compucert development team is in the process of implemented a session termination code that helps to close abandoned sessions.
Student sees a pop-up (pop-up blocker should be disabled)

Clicking "OK" allows closing abandoned session and continuation of logon. Not all portals have this code. Please, e-mail your login ID tovtrainer@careeracademy.comand tech support representative reset the session for you.

Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager Instructions:

For security reasons, the latest Adobe Flash Player Plug-in, provided by Adobe Systems Inc., no longer supports allowing you to change or manage its settings on your local computer. Upon launching your training, by default, the plug-in will ask you to allow communication with the internet. Because you cannot access these settings by clicking on the Settings button of the pop-up dialog box, you must perform the following procedure to always allow communication.

If you see this window or Lab Simulations do not function:

1. Click on “Settings” or enter the following URL into Internet Explorer and then skip to step 7http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html
2. On the upper right portion of the page, in the search box, enter Flash Settings Manager then click on the search button
3. At the top of the search results, you will see a link titled “Flash Player: Settings Manager”
4. Click on this link
5. On the left portion of the resulting page, under the Table of Contents, you will see a link titled
“Global Security Settings Panel”
6. Click on this link to access the Global Security Panel of the flash player plug-in.
7. Once the panel loads, click on the “Always Allow” option in the center of the panel.
8. Close the Internet Explorer browser
9. Relaunch the training
If you have followed these steps correctly, you should no longer see the Macromedia Flash Player Security Window every time you launch the training and your lab simulations should function as intended.

Important: As our training utilizes Adobe Flash technology, certain components of the training will fail to operate correctly if the above mentioned steps are not performed prior to beginning your training
